Gardens by the Bay Sakura Featuring Hello Kitty Floral Display

It has been more than one year since we visited Japan, and we don't know when we would be able to visit Japan again. So when we heard about Sakura featuring Hello Kitty at Gardens by the Bay, we quickly bought our tickets - thanks to SingapoRediscovers Vouchers that we only need to top up a small amount from our pocket. 

We were welcomed by the torii upon entering Flower Dome, and our imagination started to run wild and pretended that we were in Japan!

There are a few types of sakura (cherry blossom) and momo (peach blossom) at Flower Dome. Though the number of sakura and momo is not comparable to what we can see in Japan, it is still better than none.

How many Hello Kitty did we find? We found 5 of them!

As the visitors are required to book time slot to enter Flower Dome, it was not too crowded on the weekday afternoon that we went.

Doraemon’s Time-Travelling Adventures @ National Museum of Singapore

Doraemon is at National Museum of Singapore from now until 27 December 2020! Since we are not going overseas during this upcoming school holiday, visiting Doraemon at National Museum of Singapore would be a nice family outing option.

Some of the gadgets that I wish I can give my children - copying toast for memorising content, and computer pencil for writing correct answers during their exams!

Do you know all of the following gadgets?

Inside the museum, you can find Doraemon when it was yellow colour and had ears, as well as the time travelling machine. Be prepared to queue for a while as the area is rather small and a limited number of visitors are allowed to go into the area at one time.

If you are interested to find out more about Doraemon's gadgets, there are a few items located inside Singapore History Gallery - the few items are placed near the exit, so you will have learnt about Singapore's history by the time you reach there.

While there are plenty of photo opportunities with Doraemon and different gadgets, do remember to observe safe distancing measure, wear your mask and refrain from touching the statues.

Gardens by the Bay Sakura Matsuri 2020

Do you know that we can see sakura in Singapore too? Sakura Matsuri is back at Gardens by the Bay from now until 29 March 2020.

The theme of the floral display this year is Tale of the Peach Boy. In addition to the cherry and peach blossoms, Flower Dome is also decorated with torii gates and Gassho-style farmhouses. This reminds me of our visit to Shirakawa-go located in Central Japan (read our travelogue here).

I am glad that there is a control to the number of visitors in the Flower Dome as a safety measure for the current situation.

BFF Climb - Climbing Gym with Play Zone & Bouldering Zone

Regardless of rain or shine, we can exercise our muscles at BFF Climb, a climbing gym with Bouldering Zone and Play Zone. Located at Dunearn Road, BFF Climb offers facilities that are suitable for climbers with different skill level. As a family, we can also learn climbing together.

Our children first tried out the facilities at Play Zone, a perfect place for adults and children to pick up climbing for the first time. With the guidance of the facilitator and the use of auto belay device, our children were able to pick up climbing easily.

At the speed wall, once they pressed the start button at the bottom of the wall, they climbed up as fast as they could to reach the stop button on the top. They were proud of their improvement in their timing.

At Play Zone, there are other walls like walls with a bell at the top, obstacle wall, inclined wall, as well as mini bouldering wall.

Other than climbing, there are also a slide with foam pit as well as swinging elements. Our children had great fun playing and chilling in this area after climbing the walls 95678 times.

Our children next moved on to Bouldering Zone to further upgrade their climbing skill.

The routes are set by experienced climbers, with the various skill levels of the climbers in mind, they ensure that the routes are suitable and enjoyable for everyone.

We can follow the numbering on the wall and climb the route that is suitable for our skill level.

Please take note that children 4 years old and below may enter the Play Zone only, and parental supervision is highly recommended. For children 5 years old and above may go to both Play Zone and Boulder Zone. At Boulder Zone, children 12 and below must be supervised by a participating adult.

Lakeside Garden Playground @ Jurong

When the children heard that a new playground was opened at Lakeside Garden at Jurong, they were eager to go there! So one fine day during the school holiday, we embarked a journey to the west.

From Lakeside MRT Station, we walked southwards. We walked past the walkway where visitors can enjoy the view of the lake.

On hot days, a dip in the water at Water Play at Clusia Cove is so comfortable. The area is made up of Tidal Play Pool and Sand Play Pool. There is a washroom nearby for washing up. So remember to bring extra set of clothes!

We continued to walk for a while and finally reached Forest Ramble, the huge playground! The area is divided into stations that are designed to allow the children to mimic the movement of different animals. Here are some stations that we explored:

Birdwing Play - different types of swings for the children to feel that they can fly!

Heron Play - soar like a heron when the children glide down from a platform, and then climb up to the nest-like structure.

Crab Play - an ideal place to play hide-and-seek in the tunnel!

Snake Play - slide down from the giant slide like a snake!

Squirrel Play - an obstacle course to get to the nest-like structure.

Monkey Play - climb up and down like a monkey.

Frog Play - hop from one trampoline to another.

Merry-go-round allows children to collaborate and play together.

After having great fun at the playground, we walked further to the south and played at The Logs Trail for a while.

This is the place where many people take photos recently - Grasslands! The area is actually designed for observing the birds in their natural habitat, but the place looks so lovely for photoshoot!

After our search of celebrity trees in Biei at Hokkaido (read our travelogue here), we realised that there is also one in Singapore! Oh, it is actually a metal sculpture!

There is also Active SG Park - gym and swimming pool - in the southern end of Lakeside Garden.
