10 years ago, during B.C. (before child) time, we visited Taiwan and we loved visiting Shilin Night Market (士林夜市). Even though it was very crowded, we enjoyed the great variety of Taiwanese street food there. Fast forward, it is now A.C. (after child) time. We brought the children to Raohe Street Night Market (饒河街觀光夜市) after we visited to BabyBoss (read our day at BabyBoss).
You won't miss this the moment you walk into Raohe Street Night Market - pepper pie (胡椒餅)! We were there early, after we bought ours, a long queue started to form! It was piping hot, and the filling was very tasty.
As many eatery stalls were not ready yet, we walked around for window shopping. There are many shops that sell shoes, bags, handphone accessories and so on. My only damage was a set of washi tapes!
After walking for some time, the children were very tired. In order to find a seat for the children to sit down and rest, we visited an eatery that sold grilled seafood. The two dishes were NT100 each.

When I saw the customers eating baked potato with cheese, I couldn't stop salivating! Though there were not many people, it took a while for the stall owner to prepare the food. The cheese sauce was really delicious, just that it was too cold.
The chicken cutlet was as big as my face. What a pity that I didn't manage to take the photo of the whole piece.
I was looking forward to try the grilled beef cubes (NT100) as the stall owner was preparing the food. And immediately after I ordered, a queue started to form. However, it turned out to be too well done to my liking.
There is a great variety of food at Raohe Street Night Market, but I wouldn't say that the food there is cheap. It was very very crowded, so it was quite an unique experience for the children to stand among the moving crowd and eat!

Ooo.. I was there too during my Taiwan trip! I didn't think it was very very crowded as compared to Shilin.. But gah.. I cannot remember what I ate there. I should go dig out my photos to reminisce the moment.
ReplyDeleteShilin is definitely more crowded, that's why I didn't bring my children there!
DeleteThe Taiwanese markets are always so awesome (and crowded)! I'm amazed you ate the snails! So brave!
ReplyDeleteThose are similar to "gong gong" that we have in Singapore!
DeleteThe street food looks yum! If I am ever in Taiwan, with or without the kids, I will try this night market.
ReplyDeleteYes, the food is yummy!
DeleteWe are going to Taiwan next month and Raohe night market is on our itinerary! All these food make me wanna fly there now. Thanks so much for your series of travelogue.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip!
DeleteI was there with my sister 3 years ago. Oh how I miss those little snacks!
ReplyDeleteWe were there 3 months ago and we already miss the food!
DeleteWahhhh looks like so many good food to eat! I've never tried pepper pie before!
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
It is nice to have piping hot pepper pie in winter!
DeleteI went to Raohe Market on my last Taiwan trip and had the famous 胡椒餅 too! It was so crowded when we were there and another stall that I recommend is the scallops which they also brought in to Spore! On and we had a very interesting fried milk too!
ReplyDeleteDidn't see the scallop stall. A reason to be there again!
DeleteWe queued for the same pepper + spring onion pie at the entrance of Raohe market, the hubby loves it! We also tried some mango ice dessert there, quite nice!
ReplyDeleteWe would love to have the ice dessert too, but it was too cold for this when we were there!
DeleteOh, I would love to visit Taiwan one day and try all the yummy food! The baked potato with cheese is making me salivate right now!!!
ReplyDeleteThe potato with cheese is nice, it would be nicer if the cheese sauce was hot!
