Taiwan Family Travel 8D7N Free & Easy Itinerary (December 2017)

The children had been looking forward to the trip to Taiwan, because they got to travel with their beloved grandparents again! This is the children's second time visiting Taiwan, but this time, we traveled to places that we didn't visit in the previous trip (see our itinerary for Taiwan December 2015 here).

We hired a private driver for 2 days to visit places that are not very accessible by train and bus. Here is our 8D7N free and easy itinerary for our family Taiwan trip in December 2017.

We will continue to update this post to link up with the details of our travelogue, so stay tuned!

Day 1 Taipei
Singapore -> (transit via Hong Kong) -> Taipei Taoyuan International Airport -> (Taoyuan Metro) -> York Design Hotel -> (Taipei Metro) -> Shilin Night Market 士林夜市

Stay: York Design Hotel

It was our first time taking Taoyuan Metro to travel from Taoyuan International Airport to Taipei Main Station, and we didn't need to spend a single cent on this trip as we redeemed our free vouchers from Taiwan Visitors Association (Singapore Office).

Our first meal in Taiwan was, of course, at a night market!

Day 2 Taichung
Taipei -> (High Speed Rail + Taiwan Railway) -> 53 Hotel -> (Taiwan Railway) -> Changhua Roundhouse 彰化扇形車庫 -> (Taiwan Railway + bus) ->玩 One Pizza -> (bus) -> 53 Hotel

Stay: 53 Hotel

Travelling from Taipei to Taichung took us about 2 hours, read our tips on how to get from Taipei to Taichung! The children enjoyed themselves a lot at Changhua Roundhouse, where they piled up pebbles on the track. They also had fond memories of having DIY pizza buffet and the indoor play area at 玩 One Pizza.

Day 3 Nantou 南投 Puli 埔里 - private tour
Cingjing Farm Green Green Grassland 清境農場青青草原 -> Talowan 塔洛彎景觀餐廳 -> Guangxing Paper Mill 廣興紙寮 -> King Garden 元首館 -> Taroko Mall

Stay: 53 Hotel

Getting from Taichung to Cingjing Farm Green Green Grassland is so easy by hiring a private driver. We were thankful to have clear blue sky that day, as we heard that it was very misty a few days before we were there.

As usual, our trip includes educational element for the family to learn something new together. We learnt how paper is produced and made our own paper fans at Guangxing Paper Mill.

Day 4 Taichung

Stay: 53 Hotel

With elderly parents and children, our itinerary is planned such that it is not too packed. We had the most relaxing day on Day 4 of our trip, all we had to do was just eat and eat and eat.

  2. Thank you for sharing, I will be travelling to Taipei and Taichung around mid-late December. How was the temperature like at that time you went? And the attire for the trip?

    1. When we were there last December, the temperature was around 13-18 degrees Celsius. I wore a long-sleeve T-shirt, a down jacket and jeans. When it was not windy, I thought it was not cold, but when the wind came, it was very cold! Enjoy your trip!

    1. It was around 14 degrees Celsius when we were at Cingjing. We were lucky to have a sunny day, so it was not too cold. But I would suggest that you bring along warm clothing, it is very cold in Taiwan when it is windy.
