Hokkaido Travel: Biei: Ken & Mary's Tree, Seven Stars Tree, Parent & Child Trees, Hokusei-no-oka Observatory Park

After visiting Blue Pond, Shirahige Waterfall, Shikisai no Oka and Shinei-no-oka Observatory Park in the morning (read our experience here), we had a quick lunch before we went back to Biei Tourist Association (Shikino Jouhoukan) for our second Biei View Bus tour.

We had our lunch at a home stay with restaurant called Koeru 丘の宿 こえる, located next to Biei Station. The signature dish in Biei is curry udon, so I ordered the dipping style to try. The curry udon pairs nicely with milk! I like their curry as it is not too spicy.

For this tour, we went on a journey to Patchwork Road, which is actually not just a road. It is an area where the famous trees are located.

Ken and Mary's Tree ケンとメリーの木 appeared on Nissan Motor TV commercial and has seen been named after the two characters in the commercial. The tree is said to be over 90 year old!

The oak tree is known as Seven Stars Tree セブンスターの木 after a photo of it was printed on the cigarette packaging.

Other than this lone tree, the surrounding is also very picturesque!

Parent and Child Trees 親子の木 are 3 oak trees on the top of a small hill, with one small tree standing in between two large trees. They look so lovely!

The bus slowed down when it was approaching the spot for viewing from the road. The trees were on the right side of the bus, but we were sitting on the left side! As I was trying to take a photo, the Japanese tourist sitting on the right generously let me have her seat for a short while to take photos! I was so thankful by her kind act!

The last stop was Hokusei-no-oka Observatory Park 北西の丘展望公園. The place is planted with lavender which would bloom in July, so we could not see them in mid-June. From the observatory, we could see Tokachi 十勝 mountain range, it was spectacular!

If you are driving around Patchwork Road area, please slow down! Because you will see many tourists who stand in the middle of the road to take photos without considering their safety! And please note that there is car park near Keng and Mary Tree, as well as Seven Stars Tree, but no car park for viewing Parent & Child Tree.
