Gardens by the Bay Children's Garden + Year of the Horse Floral Display

Our "cross-country" Chinese New Year house visiting mission was accomplished on the first day of Chinese New Year. On the second day, we visited Gardens by the Bay, because I promised to bring them to the new playground - Far East Organisation Children's Garden.

You ask about the admission fee? It is FREE! 

We did not expect that it was so crowded at Far East Organisation Children's Garden that day, so we only spent about 20 minutes there. It was a pity that we couldn't attend the official launch in January as I had to work that day, we could have spent two hours there!

I like the idea of having different play areas designed for different age groups. As Pei Pei is 5 years old and Hao Hao is 4 years old, the suitable play areas for them are Toddler Play (1-5 years old) and Fish Fountain (2-5 years old). When they are 6-12 years old, they can play at Water Play, Adventure Trail, as well as The Tree Houses.

As both children were having cough, they did not play in the water playgrounds this time. We also had to give Adventure Trail and The Tree Houses a miss due to the crowd. But we promised them to come back again when they recover from the cough.

Water Play

It is a big misconception that you will not get wet at the Fish Fountain even if you do not step into it. We saw a 7-8 years old boy who purposely stepped on the fountain whenever visitors walked past by, and he laughed every time when he made the visitors wet drench. I could understand that children are just being curious to test the effect of stepping of spraying water. However, for an older child who entertained himself by causing inconvenience to others, I thought it was a pity that his parents / guardians who sat just a few metres missed the teachable moment on the importance of being empathetic to the others' feelings.

To celebrate the year of Horse, we galloped down to the Flower Dome to visit the Year of the Horse Floral Display. The stars of the floral display are the sculptures of three galloping horses, designed by award-winning sculptors.

Cherry blossoms, Chinese drums... the display brings an auspicious start to the new year!
