"MaMi, close your eyes, we are going to perform... magic!" And when I opened my eyes, the children had changed into their school uniform.
Well, that is their so-called magic. When I told them that we were going to watch A Night of Magic at Raffles, they were very excited, perhaps they were thinking whether the Magic Master Joe Labero could change his clothes faster than they do!
Even though I have watched many magic performances on television, it was my very first time watching a live staged performance! What would the four-time Merlin Award Winner present to us?
How I wish I could learn from Mr Labero to change clothes in split seconds! It would be useful for our mad rush in the morning! When he smashed the audience's handphone, I was amazed when it was then found in a metal box hung from the ceiling! His guest performers and fire artistes also did a fantastic job to bring the performance to a greater height. The children were thrilled to catch some of the poker cards that Mr Labero threw at the end of the performance!
With a sense of humour as well as good interaction between the magician and the audience, I would say that the performance is nice as a family outing. The cigar used by the performer at the end of the show could serve as a teachable moment for the children.

Tips for bringing children to magic show:
- Before the performance, show them some video clips of magic shows, so that they can expect what they may see at the performance.
- Take the booster seats from the side of the theatre, so that the children can watch the performance without being blocked by the audience in front of them.
- The music is quite loud, so remind them to cover their ears if they are not comfortable.
- Some children may be scared, hold their hands during the show and assure them that it is a performance.
