Taiwan Travel: Puli 埔里: Guangxing Paper Mill 廣興紙寮, King Garden 元首館

After exercising at Cingjing Farm Green Green Grassland 清境農場青青草原 and a late lunch, we continued our private tour to a town called Puli 埔里, which is located in Nantou County 南投.

We reached Guangxing Paper Mill 廣興紙寮 at around 3.30 p.m., and were just in time for their factory tour which takes place every half an hour. The purpose of including this place in our itinerary is to let the children understand that it is not easy to produce paper, and hope that they will not waste paper.

The admission fee is NT50 per person, and this can be used to pay for the DIY activities, the fee ranges from NT200.

Now then we know that many processes are involved to produce one sheet of paper!

It was a pity that we were too late for the DIY paper-making, so if you are keen to make paper from scratch, please remember to reach there before the last time slot at 3.30 p.m.!

Anyway, we still could take part in DIY paper fan making with ready-made paper. The fee is around NT100+ (oops, can't remember the exact price), which can be offset from the admission ticket.

There were many stencils to choose from, including cartoon characters like Pikachu, Hello Kitty and Doraemon, as well other designs. We sprayed some water on to the stencil and placed the ready made white paper on it, followed by placing the yellow paper and "hit" it with a brush to absorb the water. We repeated this "hitting" process until the white paper was dry,  and applied ink on it.

Then we dried the paper by placing it on a dryer, and completed by pasting it on the fan frame. Is our Hello Kitty fan nice?

Our next destination was King Garden 元首館, which was not in our itinerary initially. As I mentioned in our post on Cinging Farm Green Green Grassland, we wanted to visit Swiss Garden but it was closed for renovation, so I looked for another place, and found that King Garden was quite near Guangxing Paper Mill.

Kind Garden is basically a big shop selling bakery and snacks, and there are some photo spots. However, the place was so crowded with loads of tour groups that we could hardly take decent photos.

We bought some passion fruit jelly and egg rolls, and quickly left the crowded place. The jelly is quite nice!
