Taiwan Travel: Taichung 台中: Rainbow Village 彩虹眷村

The first stop of our Taichung private tour was Rainbow Village 彩虹眷村. The reason why I included Rainbow Village in our itinerary was not just because it is a famous photo-taking attraction in Taichung, but because of the story behind this place.

Known as 彩虹爺爺 (Rainbow Grandpa), the retired military veteran, Mr Huang Yong Fu, started to paint murals all over this place in 2008. Soon, Rainbow Village became an iconic tourist attraction in Taichung, and escaped the fate of being demolished by the city government.

It was super crowded with tourists when we reached there on a weekday morning. It took some patience before I could take these photos without many photo-bombs. It seemed that 9+am may not be a good time to take photos of Rainbow Village as sunlight was shining from behind it.

However, it was mission impossible to take proper photos without many photo-bombs when we were inside the small village. We met Mr Huang at the souvenir stall, many people took turn to take photo with him by making some donations.

We "conquered" Rainbow Village in less than half an hour! The crowd was too terrible for us to savour the art piece and take photos. Anyway, our children enjoyed the playground right next to Rainbow Village!
