Taiwan Travel: Taipei: Yong Kang Street 永康街 Kao Chi 高記

After we had visited Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall 中正紀念堂, we took Taipei MRT to Dongmen (東門) Station, which was just one stop away. The children's grandmother wanted to have dinner at Din Tai Fung, however, there was a big crowd of people, and we were informed that the waiting time was 20 minutes. So we decided to visit Kao Chi 高記 located at Yong Kang Street 永康街 instead.

Kao Chi is a Chinese restaurant serving Shanghai cuisine, and its signature dish is Shanghai style fried pork buns 上海鐵鍋生煎包. The buns are served piping hot in the metal pan! I like its crispy skin, though it would be nicer if the skin is thinner.

The generous portion of meat in the Shrimps and Pork Siew-mai 蝦仁鮮燒賣 was satisfying.

The children requested for Steamed Pork Xiao-long-bao 元籠小籠包. They knew the technique of eating xiao-long-bao - first, bite off a corner of skin to let the juice flow into the spoon, then sip the soup and eat the xiao-long-bao, so that their tongue would not be scalded!

We also had fried rice with shrimps as well as vegetables. Overall, the meal was decent.

What a pity that it was raining, otherwise I would like to explore the other parts of Yong Kang Street 永康街 after dinner!
