Hokkaido Travel: New Chitose Airport Famliy-friendly Things to Do

"I shall not take red-eye flight again!" I said this a few times and yet this happens again haha! It is because the airfare promotion from Thai Airways was too hard to resist!  Our round-trip air tickets between Singapore and Sapporo (travelled in June 2019) was around SGD2k for 2 adults and 2 children, what a steal!

Knowing that we would be very tired when we reached New Chitose Airport at around 8.30 a.m. (Japan time, which is 1 hour ahead of Singapore time), our itinerary for the first day was rather relax. We started the trip by exploring New Chitose Airport!

We first explored Smile Road which connects level 3 of International Airport with Domestic Airport, then we spent some time at level 2 and 4 of Domestic Airport. You may ask, what is so interesting at New Chitose Airport? Let us share with you why you should spend some time to explore this airport!

1. Doraemon Waku Waku Sky Park (Smile Road)

For Doraemon fans, you may want to plan some time to explore Doraemon Waku Waku Sky Park.

There are free areas like Kids Zone and Library.

Park Zone is a ticketed place where you can take photos with the settings in Doraemon. There is also cafe and gift shop where you can get cute Doraemon food, beverage and merchandises.

2. Hello Kitty Happy Flight (Smile Road)

Sanrio fans would enjoy this place!

Similar to Doraemon Waku Waku Sky Park, Hello Kitty Happy Flight has free play area for young children, a cafe and a gift shop, as well as ticketed area for photo-taking.

3. Royce's Chocolate World (Smile Road)

At Royce's Chocolate World, you can learn more about chocolate through the exhibits. There is also a mini factory where you can observe how chocolate is processed. Of course you can buy your favourite Royce chocolate here too!

4. New Chitose Airport Onsen (Domestic Airport level 4)

After the long flight from Singapore to Sapporo, soaking in the hot spring relieves my tiredness!

After payment at the reception, a bag that contained a yukata of my choice, bath towel and face towel will be giveb, and a wrist band that contained a key to the locker is also issued.

There are a few indoor hot springs, an open-air hot spring and sauna. I enjoyed the open-air hot spring very much!

5. Shopping (Domestic Airport level 2)

For a while I thought I was at the market!

You can get the local produces and souvenirs from level 2 of Domestic Airport! Yes, you can get Pokemon merchandise here too!

6. Eating ice-cream (Domestic Airport level 2 and 3)

It was challenging to decide which eatery to buy ice-cream from, we were spoilt for choice! In the end, we decided on having soft-serve from Kinotoya, a shop that is famous for baked cheese tart. I like its rich milk flavour!
