DIY Mother's Day Crafts - Flower Rings and Plastic Bag Flower

I was over the moon when I received these from Pei Pei and Hao Hao yesterday!

Oh yes, Mother's Day is just a few days away. I am glad that Pei Pei's teachers guided the children to prepare Mother's Day present for their mothers.

I feel that the children should also show appreciation for their grandmothers and great-grandmother, so we prepared some simple DIY Mother's Day presents for them - flower rings and plastic bag flowers.

Flower Rings

Materials:
  • Felt
  • Fabric
  • Pipe clean

Method:
  1. Cut 2 circles from the felt and 2 circles from the fabric. The 4 circles are of different sizes, no need to measure exactly the dimension, just make sure that the biggest one is not too big to make a ring! Cut a small slit in the centre of each circle.
  2. Thread the felt and fabric circles together using a pipe cleaner .
  3. Bend the end of the pipe cleaner at the top.
  4. Twist the other end of the pipe cleaner into a loop that a finger can fit.

See our mother-and-daughter matchy matchy rings!

Other than wearing as a ring, the flowers can act as accessories to clothings and bags!

Plastic Bag Flower

Materials:
  • Plastic bag x 1
  • Straw x 1
  • Double-sided tape

Method:

  1. Cut along the edges of a plastic bag.
  2. Cut 5 squares from the plastic bag.
  3. For each piece, fold as shown.
  4. Fold as shown.
  5. Cut a circle. If you are getting your child to cut, you may draw an arc using marker to guide your child to cut.
  6. Cut the circles in different sizes. Arrange the smallest one on the top.
  7. Hold the centre of the bottom with one hand, and use the finger of another hand to press from the centre of the top.
  8. Secure the bottom with double-sided tape, and insert it into a straw.

In addition to plastic bag flower, you can use tissue paper (not those for blowing your nose) to make flowers too, our tutorial to make tissue paper flower is here.

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers!
