We were a bit late for "We are Family!" Crafts Workshop organised by Canon and OMY.sg. When we opened the door of the ballroom at Hotel InterContinental, we saw over a hundred participants making craft projects with family members. It was such a heartwarming sight!
Suddenly, we heard a mother raising her voice at her 7-8 years old child, "No! No! Not like this!"
Well, I admit that I said this when my children were younger. I had my idea of how the end product of a craft activity "should" look like. It turned out to be a follow-my-instruction activity.
As the children grow to be able to express their ideas, I am growing with them too. I learn to listen to them, and more importantly, I learn to let them try out their ideas (I would still say "No" if they point the scissors at each other).
Our first craft activity was to make a photo frame door hanger. There were a number of Canon PIXMA printers available during the workshop. Through PIXMA Printing Solution App, it was so easy to print our photos from my smartphone.
I reminded myself - let the children lead the craft activity.
When we did the craft activities, I took the opportunity to let them verbalise their ideas. Instead of asking "What is this", I asked, "Can you share with me about your design?" They shared with me that they wanted to fill the photo frame with letters. That was their simple yet unique idea.
The second craft project was even more exciting! Each family was to make a photo stand, which became part of the Singapore map!
It was indeed a great family bonding activity, and we enjoyed ourselves very much! Looking forward to be part of Canon Crafts Workshop again!
Disclaimer: This is the last part of a series of conversations between Canon and PeiPei.HaoHao. We received a Canon PIXMA photo all-in-one printer and a packet of Canon photo paper. No monetary compensation was received. All opinions and photos are mine, the designs of the craft projects belong to Pei Pei and Hao Hao.
