Junior Bake Off with Discovery Kids

As the children are now older, the kitchen is no longer a "forbidden land" to them. I welcome them to join me in preparing simple dishes. Through cooking, they learn about vocabulary, counting, measuring and developing motor skills. 

When we were invited to take part in Junior Bake Off by Discovery Kids, I thought it was a good opportunity for the children to learn about the process of baking, since we do not bake at home... we do not have electric oven!

At Chantilly Culinary Studio, the little chefs were given a mission - to prepare Chocolate Rocky Road Burger and Fries Cookies.

As the name "Junior Bake Off" suggested, the baking work should be done by the juniors. From mixing the chocolate with marshmallows, making the dough for the cookies, mixing ingredients for the cupcakes, to assembling the cupcake burgers, the children did most of the work by themselves. MaMi the not so junior (though still young at heart) only assisted in holding the electrical mixer.

I think I shall purchase an electrical oven soon!
