"You need to take some time for yourself!"
That was a kind suggestion offered when I was almost went mad 7 years ago. I was a noob mum then. Me-time? What is me-time? Perhaps my me-time was sleeping, which was a luxury!
When I returned to work after the maternity leave, I faced struggle in balancing work and family. Do I get some me-time during office hour? Not to boast about myself, I am very focused at work! My colleagues even label me as the most efficient worker in the team! So, office hours = work, no me-time!
So how do I find time for myself to keep sane? Take a peep at my after work hours - after the children have gone to bed, and if I have not k.o. with them, I would enjoy my adult time - blog and read (what were you thinking when I said adult time??).
In particular, my favourite me-time is reading. Not children's story books! I enjoy reading travel books and blogs! After I started working and before I have children, I used to travel at least once a year. So I am quite deprived of travelling overseas ever since I became a mother. Reading these would make me feel like I have travelled to those places!
My current reads are travel books to Taiwan, as we are planning a family trip during year end!

As there is limited space at home, instead of buying the books, I usually borrow from the library. If you are interested in reading travel guides, do visit Library@Orchard at Orchard Gateway Level 3-4, it has a good collection of travel guides!
Daddies and mummies, what is your favourite me-time?
This blog post is part of a blog train "Mummy's Me-Time" initiated by Prayerfull Mum.
The next mummy on the blog train:
Angeline blogs at Simply Mommie and has been a stay-home mom for almost 7 years now. She's mom to two lovely children who have given her new insights to life as she now finds herself on a journey of re-discovery of the world through their little eyes.

Prior to a trip, after firming up the itinerary briefly, I find it is pretty addictive to search for holiday accommodation online. It filled up my Me-time a lot, often I chase the girls to sleep impatiently or I urge the daddy to take over. hahaa... After trip? busy blogging >.<
ReplyDeleteYes, pc, it is so addictive to research before trip! Totally agree with you on busy blogging after the trip!
DeleteAt night, when my kids are asleep, I pretend that I'm sleeping too, truth is, I'm just hiding under my blankie watching sitcoms. That's my "me-time." You have to own it or it will fly away you know :-D
ReplyDeletePaula, it has been very long since I last watched sitcoms! Yes, have to make good use of opportunity for me-time!
DeleteReading! One of the things I love to do too in the past. But now with so many things to read on screen I kinda just rather stare into blank space and just reflect. Still trying to get some me-time to get my colouring book filled up.
ReplyDeleteClaudia, staring into space and reflecting is also a good form of me-time!
DeleteOoo we were supposed to go Taiwan end of the year but scrapped that. Going to Shanghai again instead. Have a great trip and enjoy all the yummy Taiwanese delights!
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
Ai, enjoy your trip to Shanghai! Am looking forward to those yummy Taiwanese delights!
Deletehahaha you are so cute leh... you read travel magazines! I'm not much better, I like to read food magazines and imagine the flavours! :)
ReplyDeleteJiahui, haha, that is a good one!
DeleteAhhhhh reading travel books. It makes me feel like I'm transported to that place for that moment.
ReplyDeleteYes Cynthia! Reading travel books and imagine that I am really there!
DeleteIt's good that you take some me-time! It's so important for maintaining sanity (and what better way to spend it than dreaming about a holiday?)
ReplyDeleteDebs, since we can't afford to go on holidays often, dreaming would be good too!
