"Move!" The children asked DaDi to start the car at the junction. They recognised that the traffic light was green, however, they were not aware that we were going to turn right.
"We are going to turn right, we have to give way to cars from the opposite direction." DaDi explained.
To let the children learn about traffic rules, we brought them to Road Safety Park, located at East Coast Park. They had an experience of being the driver, and learnt to observe the traffic rules!
The children learnt about traffic light and the traffic signs. Oh, the traffic lights were not functioning, so I had to say, "It is green light now! It is turning yellow! It is red light now!"
They had to fill petrol for their... er... bicycles! The petrol filling nozzle was quite heavy!
They remembered MaMi said that cars need to "see doctor for check-up"!
Tips for bringing children to The Road Safety Community Park:
- Bring hats / caps! And insect repellent!
- There are big ants at the "Inspection Centre" (the photo above), so be careful!
- Do look out for your children as there are some children who do not "drive" safely.
- It is very slippery after the rain, so remind your children to "drive" slowly.

I remember going there when I was young but I thought it was already defunct. Glad to know they are still around~~~
ReplyDeleteCynthia, yes, it has been there for very long!
DeleteI brought my kids there twice when they were younger. It is a nice place to teach children traffic rules. A pity that it's a little run down . :(
ReplyDeletePhoebe, what a pity that it is a little run down.
DeleteAhhhh so nostalgic! Glad to know it is still around :)
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
Ai, yes it is still around!
DeleteThis reminds me of the time I was there with my schoolmates. Missed out on getting a medal or something after stepping on the grass to ask a NPCC cadet for directions.
ReplyDeleteSarah, I think during our schooling days, this was one of the popular places for school excursions!
DeleteI really miss this safety park! Really must find an opportunity to play cyclist, pedestrain, and "police" with kids again !
ReplyDeletecheers, Andy
(SengkangBabies)
Andy, this park is good for role play with children!
DeleteThis is childhood! ! Do they still provide the cards for signature or summons??
ReplyDeleteShirley @ SAys! Happy Mums
Shirley, good idea! I shall prepare summons when we go there next time!
DeleteWhen I brought my kids to the Road Safety Park, the only thing they were interested in was topping up their bicycle / scooter with petrol!! LOL!! The petrol thingy was pretty realistic.
ReplyDeleteMy children loved that too! It was quite heavy!
DeleteOur kids LOVE the Road Safety Park! The thrill of becoming adult like when they pump petrol makes them really happy! :)
ReplyDeleteOur children love the park too! They had a taste of being the "drivers"!
DeleteI remember going to the Road Safety Park when I was in Primary School! We all so loved it but the time there was always very short! We either got to be Pedestrains or Drivers, not both :( Didn't know that it is now opened to public and is still so well maintained!
ReplyDeleteAudrey @ SAys! Happy Mums
I guess the children would "fight" to be the drivers?
