Kite Flying with Children @ Marina Barrage

Some time ago, I saw a beautiful kite at a newspaper stall, and it was only SGD3.90! I bought it and was excited about bringing my children to fly kite. Somehow, at the old age of 30+++, I only flew kite once! Yes, only once.

And then, that beautiful kite went into the "cold storage" (being ignored) for the next few weeks. Until one fine weekend morning, I woke up earlier than usual, and declared that we were going to fly kite! We travelled all the way to Marina Barrage, and it was drizzling. Anyway, it did not dampen our mood to fly kite!

At the Green Roof, the children were excited to launch the kite into the sky. But they were reluctant to let it go higher up in the sky, because they were afraid that they would lose it!

Marina Barrage is a great place to fly kite, because it is windy enough. And we get to see other beautiful kites!

Let the kite fly high up into the sky, and rein it when it is flying out of direction, but do take care not to hold it too tight, else the string will snap. That is exactly like parenting! Providing parental constant support and guidance, while not controlling the children like a helicopter, else it would affect the relationship!

  1. Are there that many places to fly kite in Singapore? I also brought the kids kite-flying at Marina Barrage recently. I can't think of any others places to be frank. Nowadays there seem to be 'No Kite Flying' signs everywhere. People used to fly kites at the big open field right outside my house. Then they put up a 'No Kite Flying' sign. And now the field is used as a bus interchange. Sad.... :(

    1. Bumble Bee Mum, there are other places like West Coast Park to fly kite. There were open fields near my place in the past, but by the time my children can run, the fields were used to build residential and commercial buildings!

  8. I've tried kite flying years ago and had a bad experience with the string getting knotted and the kit simply not flying... Looks like I really must try it again!
